I need some clarity and hope to find it somewhere, maybe here.
In the wake of the recent elementary school shootings, there has been a renewed call for more stringent “gun controls”. Before I go any further, be aware that I am totally aware of the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Speaking of the 2nd Amendment, has anyone read it and read it in the context of the time period when it was written? (As ratified by the States and authenticated by Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State: A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.) Okay, there’s the gist of it. Also remember it was written in 1791.
Now that we are actually aware of what it says, I need to ask the question that weighs so heavily on my mind. Why in the world would someone need any sort of assault rifle or a clip with lots of bullets to protect their home or go hunting? I mean, really, you need a fast burst of bullets to shot at a deer or rabbit? Give me a break! If you have nothing to hide, why are back-ground checks such a sticking point? Enforce the laws on the books should not even be an issue, if it’s the law, enforce it!!!
